Happy Late April: some good hatches

sur gammare

Even if some rivers are suffering, there's still some nice outing to do.
It's been raining for weeks now, and almost every stream runs high gradient flows.
The weather is good for hatches and if you're lucky you can find a couple of fishable days for dry or sight nymphing action.
Lucky we were with my friends during our last outings.

If the level ain't too high you can even see fish rising on caddis, olive parachutes, cdc emergers...

    As those ones did:

Some doubles and a 3 of a kind with my friends Alx and François... In dry fly. Awesome!

When they're not rising, you can find our typical zebra trout nymphing along the banks... These scuds lovers are tough to cheat, and very tough to get into the net.

To fish them in sight nymphing in this gin clear water, there is another story. Stealth, patience and perfect presentation are the keys. These educated and spooky fish look closely to the food before taking it, so the scud pattern has to seem alive. The fish put an eye on the fly at the moment I dropped it into the water. He stayed focus on it without making a move. A little animation got him to a slow movement. He stopped a yard far from the nymph, I shaked my rod's tip to animate the scud once again and he finally took it. Be patient before setting the hook, because this kind of fish usually don't rush to eat scuds. It seemed to me the moment has been during a century. He just opened tightly the mouth once ... and twice.  Suddenly m arm bent the rod and I felt this heavy weight fish dancing hooked on my line...  I knew the fish was on! I screamed to Alx "Fish on!". he turned up in a second, net in the hand...

Powerful fish... He turned mad when he realized the scud was fake!
Unforgettable fight!

Three other smaller fish were convinced in sight nymphing in the afternoon, but unfortunatly they hook off... Too bad!

Some good days on the rivers with a bunch of nice trout and souvenirs in the numerical net... some story to tell.

When releasing them we actually made an appointment with them... for later, when they'll be bigger! Awesome!
